26 AI Proposals to Mitigate the Pandemic

Never before has the world so urgently needed data-rich, digitally-driven, and cross-disciplinary science. At the C3.ai Digital Transformation Institute, we have spent the last three months evaluating proposals that harness “Digital Transformation Science” to address the COVID-19 pandemic. After an intense peer review process, we have decided to support 26 projects led by some of the country’s top scholar-innovators. These projects tackle COVID-19 as a disease of manifold consequences with manifold solutions. Many also aim to mitigate the pandemic’s racial, economic, and healthcare disparities. A total of $5.4 million is being awarded along with access to the C3 AI Suite™, Microsoft Azure computing and storage, and robust data resources such as the C3.ai™ COVID-19 Data Lake. Please read about the funded projects, and do not hesitate to be in touch with your ideas.

Roundtable Featuring COVID-19 Principal Investigators

On June 18, C3.ai DTI held a virtual roundtable for media with 10 principal investigators leading COVID-19 mitigation research. This video of the roundtable features research led by Anna Hotton (University of Chicago), Sanmi Koyejo (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign), Karen Chapple (UC Berkeley), Saurabh Amin (MIT), Asu Ozdaglar (MIT), Rayid Ghani (Carnegie Mellon), Gerbrand Ceder (UC Berkeley), Vincent Poor (Princeton University), Maryellen Giger (University of Chicago), and Nancy Amato (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign).

Consortium Expansion

Stanford University Joins C3.ai DTI

Stanford University has become the consortium’s seventh university member with Chris Manning, Thomas M. Siebel Professor of Machine Learning and Associate Director of the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered AI, joining the C3.ai DTI Executive Committee.  

“Collaboration across universities and disciplines is key to unlocking the societal benefits of artificial intelligence and machine learning,” said Professor Manning. “And this consortium, with its foundational support for Digital Transformation Science to mitigate COVID-19 and future societal challenges, has significant potential to advance solutions.” Read more.
