In February 2018, 3M and C3.ai established a joint Center of Excellence (CoE) to scale the development and deployment of enterprise AI applications across 3M’s global operations. Jennifer Austin described the steps 3M took to build and grow the 3M CoE, including identifying the required skill sets, recruiting internally and externally, training technical and non-technical resources, establishing a multi-phase application roadmap with detailed product specifications, and adopting C3.ai’s best practices for reliable and repeatable application delivery on the C3 AI Suite. The 3M CoE has provided significant capabilities and delivered two production AI applications in less than a year. Ms. Austin discussed the continuous evolution of her teams’ self-sufficiency and how they leverage C3.ai expertise across initiatives to ensure 3M’s success.
